In the past two months, I’ve had the privilege of visiting two of the archery industry’s finest companies: Gold Tip and Bowtech.
The trip to Gold Tip (Orem, UT) involved a tour of the factory, an arrow-building demonstration with Tim Gillingham, and a 3-D archery shoot in a breathtaking location in the Utah mountains. Ted Nugent joined us for this fun and informative day.
I toured Bowtech’s factory (Eugene, OR) with editors Dwight Schuh (Bowhunter), Christian Berg (Petersen’s Bowhunting), Joe Bell (Bow & Arrow Hunting), Mark Melotik (Bowhunting World), and Todd Kuhn (Outdoor Life). Bowtech walked us through how they build their bows, an absolutely brilliant process. The final step in our tour involved building a bow – (with much help) I put together a Destroyer 350. Fully set up, this bow is shooting 325 fps. It’s quiet… send-a-tingle-up-your-spine fast… and very, very smooth. To say I’m impressed doesn’t begin to scratch it. This bow is also accurate – I’m not that good of a shooter, but I did Robin Hood on my sixth shot. Honest.
Here’s one photo from the Gold Tip trip, and a few from my time with Bowtech. After setting up our bows, Bowtech treated us to a turkey hunt in Oregon. Our group hunted with Jody Smith, of Jody Smith Guide Service (www.jodysmithguideservice.com) – I had a great time hunting out of a blind with Dwight and Jody, two great guys! Dwight scored on a tom in the last moments of the hunt… I wasn’t so fortunate. Still a blast, though.
Thanks Gold Tip and Bowtech for two great trips!
