Taking Photo

Happy Veteran’s Day, Jeff!

Wednesday, November 11th, 2009

This past Saturday, Jeff Brehm put me on a big buck on his hunting property (see entry below). This same friend also served for 22 months away from home a couple years ago. He just retired from the National Guard after 20+ years. Thanks for your faithful service, Jeff! And thanks to all the men and women of the United States military! (Here is a picture of Jeff when he was in Iraq… reading a hunting magazine:)

I had the privilege of hunting with a great friend, Jeff Brehm, yesterday morning. Two other friends joined us, as well. (One friend, Rich, shot his first buck with a bow!) At 9:30 in the morning, this buck came cruising through the woods. He was clearly seeking does and I had to make a noise to stop him. He ran about 75 yards after the shot.

This was absolutely one of the most fun hunts I’ve ever had. Thanks, Jeff!

He gross scored 138″ as a non-typical. He’s a main frame 4×5 with a split brow tine on his left side.

First Doe

Wednesday, September 16th, 2009

Mike and I had a good hunt last night. Aside from getting feasted on by mosquitos, we enjoyed a beautiful fall night. We saw a young buck at about 4:00, and then I shot a doe at about 6:00. She didn’t go far – I was pleased with my first shot of the season. We’re smoking the tenderloins for dinner tonight.

I hope your season is off to a great start!

The Face of Trespassing

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009

Today is opening day of Nebraska’s archery season! Mike and I will be sitting in a stand together this afternoon. The weather is absolutely perfect.

We’ve been playing around with trail cameras this year. We’ve caught several nice bucks (including a 6×6!) on film. We also caught this guy 4-wheeling through the property on a Sunday afternoon. Still haven’t figured out who he is… yet.

Big Bucks

Wednesday, August 12th, 2009

I photographed the largest buck I’ve seen this year. The photo isn’t great… it was getting dark, and I got so excited I forgot to switch my aperture setting.

Here are two bucks from the drive tonight.

The work and the reason why…

Saturday, August 1st, 2009

We went for a family drive in the woods today and I put up a couple tree stands. Here are a few photos from the adventure… followed by a photo of a nice buck that came out a couple nights ago.

It looks like I’ve finally met my equal…

Clay Shooting with a Bow

(For the record, I’m completely kidding about being this kid’s equal… I can’t even shoot that accurately with a shotgun!)

GREAT time to scout!

Tuesday, July 14th, 2009

This is one of my favorite times to get out into the woods to scout or work on stands. The bucks are growing headgear, the fawns are running around, and the ticks are almost gone.

I’ve set up my new Air Raid and I like how it launches my Pro Hunters. It’s another fast, accurate bow from Bowtech… should we be surprised!?!

Nice Bucks

Tuesday, July 7th, 2009

These are a few bucks I photographed tonight on a family drive. They still have a full month of growing to do… but they’re looking great already!

Getting Ready for Ezra

Thursday, June 4th, 2009

I just finished building an indoor dog kennel for our soon-to-be new family member. We’re going to do an indoor/outdoor dog run and kennel. (The kennel has a name - The Drick House - after my father-in-law. I copied his excellent design.)

As you can see below, I had some fantastic help!
